September Dawn

Just watched the film "September Dawn" for about the hundredth time. Well it is officially Trent Ford week I suppose, why the hell not? Anyway. September Dawn retells the tragic story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre in Utah, 1857. It portrays the story of how 120 men, women and children were savagely murdered by the Mormons. This film, when it was released, received a lot of bad criticism due largely to the religious aspect of the tale. However, I tell people, take out the religious aspect, which OK is hard to do considering that's the entire reason why the people get murdered, and just enjoy the film. The massacre is only one element the other, which makes me like it, is the love story between the Bishops son, Jonathon, (played by Trent Ford) and Emily (Tamara Hope). Even though after three meetings together they are declaring their marriage for each other, I still love it. Trent Ford plays a brilliant Jonathon Samuelson and Tamara Hope, even though I couldn't totally work out her accent, is nice to watch. Love at first sight is used between them to make their love more believable, which for me, actually works. The worst part is the end though, where everyone admittedly dies. The only survivor is Jonathon - even his brother kicks the bucket - and a 6 month year old baby girl who is actually telling the story. But its the end that gets the tears rolling, despite Tamara's pretty hilarious dying face, the whole scene is touching and undoubtedly upsetting. For me, I think it's Trent Fords acting, c'mon the dude is totally bawling his eyes out which makes it harder to watch. I mean he's just killed his own brother to save the woman he loves and then the woman he loves is then shot to death by his own father. Dude, I'd be holding that gun to my head as well. Though thankfully Trent doesn't pull the trigger after finding the baby girl and is seen, at the end, with her all grown up. Despite what critics say, I really did like September Dawn. Admittedly it could have been directed a bit better but then who am I to talk details? I think its a personal preference of the film, I know people who hate it yet some people who love it. It just depends on you. I, for one, love it. But that's just me so no hating please. Still, if you have seen it, tell me about it, I'd love to know anymore September Dawn fans out there...
