New Moon Review

So I knew Twilight fans were pretty hardcore, I think by the now the entire world knows that, but wow. When I went to see New Moon on Friday I think insane hit a new level. The line - which I thankfully did not have to stand in - went right out of the doors and down the street. I guess no one here booked their tickets, or if they did they weren't wise and picked them up beforehand. Liz, Ryan and I, with our tickets in hand, loaded up on candy, soda and popcorn before heading off to our screen where the madness just continued. Everywhere I looked someone was either wearing a "Team Edward" or "Team Jacob" tee shirt. Safe to say I felt really misplaced standing in a plaid shirt and jeans. Still, we eventually headed in, got our seats and then watched trailers that were coming soon. Anyway. New Moon. You would think after all of its hype fans would have enjoyed it. Apparently not. The rating on IMDb, when I last saw it anyway, was 4.2. What? Now, usually I love to rip these films apart but I have to say New Moon was actually pretty good. Being my least favorite of the books, I wasnt all too bothered about the outcome but it surpassed anything I imagined. It started like the book - with Bella running through the crowds in Italy to then run right into her dream where she's that old, pale, wrinkly old Bella. I thought that was a great opening. It continued well, until we saw Edward. I dont think I've ever laughed so hard, if anyones seen it you'll know what I'm talking about - a particular saunter Rob Pattinson does in the parking lot. Hell, I have all the respect for Rob but that was just hilarious! Although how he managed to pull it off makes me wonder. Whatever. The start of the film was actually pretty great the only thing that annoyed me was Rob's voice. I dont know how it was to everyone, but I could hardly understand a word he said. It sounded as though he slurred his way through the film, unless of course his accent was just a little shaky. The infamous Break Up scene (so famous that I capitlised it) I thought was just an average "meh." Rob, finally pulled of an Edward worthy performance whereas Kristen Stewart (who I actually like) failed to make me believe her life had just shattered in front of her eyes. Not believable at all. Much to my amusement though Liz cried but then she cries at anything. Anyway. So with Edward gone her friendship with Jake forms. And boy does it form quickly. It happened so quickly and suddenly their best friends and Bella is telling him "not to break up" with her. In fact it sort of set the pace for the rest of the film. Everything happened so quickly. Suddenly their on the motorbikes to then Bella cliff diving to suddenly Alice turning up and now we're all in Italy. That annoyed me, I dont think it allowed us to catch up with it, it happened all too fast. Plus I've lost all respect for Ashley Greene, she just does nothing for me as Alice. Nothing at all. Sorry all Ashley fans. And just because I found it that amusing, did anyone elses theater errupt with laughter when Alice shows Bella and Edward in the future when Bella's been changed? Oh dear I dont think I've laughed so hard, and Rob really cannot run. Still, New Moon, despite it's awful ending ( Edward - 'Bella will you Marry Me?' Bella -:O) it was pretty great. I felt it stuck to the book a lot more than Twilight did and actually managed to capture the right tone of the book this time around. Everyones acting stepped up a notch especially Kristens and the music is amazing - seriously I bought the New Moon score by Alexandre Desplat and have been listening to it every night before bed. New Moon is a good movie, a lot better than the critics are saying and guaranteed a lot of hate is coming from Edward lovers, hell I'm on "Team Edward" and I liked this movie. Still, it seems to be a personal preference and I chose to like it.
