Yes, only yesterday did I get round to watching Disney's latest animatation: The Princess & the Frog. I had previously decided to head to the movie theater to watch it but the time never arose leaving me to find it online. Truth be told, my copy was excellent. No dodgy shaky camera movements, no people in front getting up to block the screen - it was as though I had bought it on DVD it just came without any special features. So yesterday I watched it, having nothing better to do with my time. And, for some reason, I'm suddenly obsessed with Disney again. Okay, let me change that, I've always been a fan of Disney but recently the classics have been stealing my attention. Needless to say The Princess & The Frog (which was to be originally titled as The Frog Princess) will be grouped alongside The Little Mermaid, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Really, the film is that good. It tells the tale of Tiana - the first African American princess (well it was about time to!) who dreams of opening up her own resturant in New Orleans. And as she works to scrape the money together she finally gets enough to start her dream. At the same time, Prince Naveen (who is one fine looking prince!) enters town and is there to marry Tiana's best friend: Charlotte whose father is just money, money, money. But before any of this ensues, Prince Naveen finds himself being led astray by the evil Dr. Facilier who turns him into a frog. An adorable one too. Tiana and Naveen meet once he has been transformed and he coaxs her into kissing him, which results in Tiana, to, transforming into a frog. The tale takes on an adventure for Tiana and Naveen to journey to Mama Odies who can hopefully reverse the spell. Along the way they meet aligator Louis and Ray the firefly who are totally hilarious. The films ultimately ends with a Happy Ever After for Tiana and Naveen who marry and open Tiana's resturant together.
Its hilarious, sweet, charming, adventurous and has some dark thrown in there too. It's fast becoming one of my ultimate favorite Disney films, its just a feel good film. With catchy tunes and brilliant animation, The Princess and the Frog will definitly be remembered as a Disney classic. If you havent seen it, do!
